Leaders of Religious Education Conference

Last week the Principal and DRS attended the Catholic Diocese of Hamilton Leaders of Religious Education Conference held in Rotorua from 18-20 May. The theme of the conference was “School of Mercy.” Bishop Stephen Lowe talked about his vision of a Mercy School and issued a few challenges – Are we a school for the poor, the unloved, those with disabilities? Are we a school of Mercy? Where are we putting our focus?

The keynote speaker was Father Richard Leonard, SJ – a Jesuit priest from North Sydney. An accomplished speaker and author who delivered three amazing sessions based on his books “Where the hell is God?” “What are we doing of Earth for God’s sake?” and “Why bother Praying?”  Look him up on Youtube, he is well worth listening to.

Other presenters included Fr. Peter Murphy – Christian Meditation; Lynn Smith – Catholic Social Teaching; Shelly Fitness – First Time Principal and Bruce Drysdale – Bringing school liturgies alive.

Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ School Mass

Today we celebrated the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ with a school mass. Thanks to Mons Trevor for celebrating the mass with us: the beautiful blessing upon our five year olds was a very special moment for them and their families.  An enormous thank you, to Mrs Carsen, Mr Williams, the Mercy Singers and children who played a musical instrument who made our mass so joyful and uplifting.

Congratulations to the children from Room 5, 7, 9 and 10 who lead the school and parish in learning the actions to the songs  “Open up the doors of Mercy” and “Holy Spirit Rock.”

Thank you to the PTFA for once again providing bibles to our new five-year-old students; it was lovely to see our five year olds introduced to the parish and school community at mass.
To all the parents who supported your children by brining them to mass - THANK YOU!

Fwd: Pentecost Art

Five students used chalk, pastel and dye to create a Pentecost Stained Glass window piece of art. The art is up on the Special Character wall in the school office.

The art depicts the flame which represents the Holy Spirit that appeared to the Apostles after Jesus' death.

Well done Tyla, Alexandra, Ryan, David and Abbigail.

Today we celebrated the Solemnity of Pentecost - the coming down of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles

 Prayer for Pentecost

We light a candle, and enjoy the flickering light ,
the fragrance and warmth it creates.
But without the spark that ignites, there will be no flame.
Without the wax, the source of power, the wick will not burn.
Without the flame, there will be no fragrance, no warmth, no light.
And so with us, Lord.
You are the catalyst that ignites us, and the fuel that sustains us.
You fill us with your fragrance as you enter our lives.
You empower us to carry your flame in our hearts,
to be the fragrance, warmth, and light of your love,
in this dark world. Amen.

A Prayer for Mother's

This Sunday we celebrate and acknowledge all Mother’s.

A Prayer for Mother's
As Mary was the model of prayer,
of love, and of obedience to the will of God, by your grace make mothers holy and rich with your gifts.
Bind families together in the bonds of peace and safety so that mothers will feel nurtured by love.
May all mothers enjoy good health and spiritual well being to enable them to care for their families.
Amen.
